Reba Mae Newman, age 78 of Corbin, Kentucky passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at Baptist Health Corbin. She was the mother of Viva Johnson of Somerset, Kentucky, Ronnie Gunter of London, Kentucky, Robert Lewis of Georgia, and Virginia Day of Berea, Kentucky, the sister of Lucy Parsons of Evarts, Kentucky. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert Short and Sarepta Cloud Short, by one son, Kenneth Gunter, and by four siblings, Loretta Wicsko, Bessie Davenport, Ray Short, and Howard Short. Funeral Services for Reba Mae Newman will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, April 27, 2017 in London Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Reynolds and Bro. Johnny Benge officiating. Burial will follow at Hale Cemetery. The family of Reba Mae Newman will receive friends at London Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon Thursday, April 27, 2017 until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to London Funeral Home toward funeral expense. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.Read Obituary
Momma is with the Lord now and our loss is Heaven's gain. She was a light and a inspiration to me and so many others. She loved the Lord and wanted everyone to go to Heaven. Just a week before she left us, she spoke and sang for the residents at the nursing home where she had been for the last 4 years.
I will see her again some day. I love you Momma !

today is the day and i am not wanting to say goodbye. This was my Mammy. From the time of a small child i remember my first visits to Harlan County, my first Big Mac, first Bible Study, first time prayer meeting and many more firsts. She was a great woman of faith and took me under her care all throughout my life. She helped build a foundation of faith in my life and i can think of no better way to memorialize her than to carry on her traditions. She taught me how to can from the garden and make chicken and dumplings! She loved me unselfishly and blessed everyone she met. I am going to miss her more than these words can say.
