John David (JD) Proffitt age 72, husband of Evelene (Katherine) Minton Proffitt of Lexington, Kentucky and formerly of Laurel County passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Brookdale Richmond Place in Lexington, Kentucky. He is survived by his son, Corey Proffitt of Lexington, Kentucky, by his son-in-law Tommy Boyd of Lexington, Kentucky, by his siblings; George Proffitt of Jackson County, Kentucky, Clyde Proffitt, Martha Bentley and Beulah Howard all of London, Kentucky, and by his beloved dog Patsy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Proffitt and Fannie (Bruner) Proffitt, and by his siblings, Harrison Proffitt, and Bobbie Jean Benge. Funeral Services for John David ( JD)Proffitt will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, December 23, 2017 in London Funeral Home Chapel with Chase Whitis officiating. Burial will follow at Bruner Cemetery. The family of John David Proffitt will receive friends at London Funeral Home from 10:30 AM Saturday, December 23, 2017 until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to; Hospice of the Bluegrass in Memory of John David Proffitt, 2409 Members Way, Lexington, Kentucky 40504.Read Obituary

Spending time with JD Proffit was always a welcomed event. JD was a phenomenal storyteller, an accomplished bootlegger, a great card player, and most importantly a great friend that I will miss dearly.

My sincere condolences to Katherine, Corey and Tommy.

My sincerest sympathies to Evelene, Corey and Tommy. JD was a precious friend and neighbor. I will forever remember that mischievous laugh and his stories of tobacco farming. My fondest memory is the day I gifted him with a Buffalo nickel. That cemented our rather short friendship as he and I joked so often about its worth (which is not much)!
JD will be greatly missed. I surely know he understood the love and devotion of sweet Evelene and Corey and Tommy. Rest easy, my friend. You certainly earned your eternal reward.
