Ronnie Cunagin, age 73, husband of Joyce (Frye) Cunagin of Krypton, Kentucky passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022 at ARH Regional Medical Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He was the father of Ronnie Lee Cunagin of London, Kentucky, Anthony Haas, Karen Treadway, and Brad Cunagin all of Hazard, Kentucky, Colleen Wright of Gray Hawk, Kentucky; the brother of Frederick McQueen and Judy Anderson both of McKee, Kentucky, Rose McQueen and Roger Cunagin both of Laurel County, Kentucky, Janie Allen of Tennessee, and Don Cunagin of Jackson County, Kentucky. He was also blessed with ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Gilbert and Thelma (Cunagin) McQueen; by his brother, Kenneth Cunagin. Graveside services and burial for Ronnie Cunagin will be conducted Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Cunagin Cemetery in Jackson County, Kentucky with Shane Gabbard and Robert Frye officiating. London Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Serving as pallbearers will be: Roger Cunagin, Ronnie Lee Cunagin, Brad Cunagin, Anthony Haas, Bruce Wright, Phil Frye, Bill Frye, and Randy Frye.Honorary pallbearers will be Don Cunagin and Johnny Jones.Read Obituary

As much as I didn’t like the idea of Ronnie Cuningan taking my big sister away from me, I was comforted in the fact that he loved her and she loved him. Ronnie always worked very hard. He took his responsibility as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather very seriously.
At 14 years old you look at things differently than when you are nearing 60. I am Ronnie’s brother-in-law and I have a story.
Shortly after Ronnie took my one and only big sister away, I am talking all the way over to Jackson county! Hello! I am in Owsley County, and just a young teenager without a drivers license, it might as well have been the other side of the state. Even the phone company agreed with me! Because it was long distance from Owsley County to Jackson County. However, we had a Jackson county phone number. My big sister would call mom most every night, and talk a lot about this Ronnie Cuningan guy she had married, and it was all good stuff! It was hard staying mad at Ronnie cause he was such a likable guy.
When I had a real change of heart about Ronnie was when my dad (Ralph Frye) made a comment about Ronnie one day.
My dad said “I have never seen a man work as hard and fast as Ronnie Cuningan.” Ronnie would work a full day at Flav-O-Rich and still come home and cut a acre of tobacco. In those days a compliment like really meant a lot. So now looking back all those years I realize Ronnie Cuningan has been a role model for me of a hard-working man who loved my big sister, and took care of his family. Ronnie was a honorable man who loved the Lord. May he rest, in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
