Roscoe Knoy Garland

Roscoe Knoy Garland, age 93, went to spend eternity with his savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2020. He passed at home with his loving family by his side.The son of the late John and Mary Hodge Garland, he was born on September 9, 1927, in London, KY. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Oakley, and found great joy in being her husband and the father to their three children. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary just before Dorothy passed in 2014.A man of many talents, Roscoe loved to hunt, fish, and play cards. He took up the sport of golf at the age of 74 and played at Crooked Creek Golf Club for more than a decade. He had an incredible sense of humor that brought life, light, and encouragement to every room he entered.Roscoe worked for the Kentucky Department of Transportation for 30 years — making his way from heavy equipment operator to foreman of the London Garage. Upon retiring, he and Dorothy lived life to the fullest, traveling thousands of miles seeing the sights of the United States and Canada.He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Jim Kelley, of Nicholasville, Linda and David Cupp, of London, and Marsha and her late husband Rick Hodge, of London. He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Reams of Middletown, Ohio, and Judy Inman of Sydney, Ohio.Affectionately known as “Papaw,” his legacy lives on. He has six grandchildren, Dana Black and husband, Richard, of Lexington, Leslie Ryser and husband, Rocky, of London, Jeff Weaver and wife, Rebecca, of Versailles, David Kelley and wife, Angela, of London, James Kelley of Lexington, and the late Rick Hodge of Berea.He also has nine great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Black and Robert Black, of Lexington; Jillian Weaver and Charlotte Weaver, of Versailles; Ross Ryser, Haley Hodge, Cole Kelley, Camden Kelley, and Carter Kelley, all of London.The family would like to thank Tri-County Hospice, especially Miss Perlina and Miss Kathy, for their compassionate care.The life of Roscoe Garland will be celebrated by family at a private graveside serviceRead Obituary
