Harold Grimes Sr. passed away at the age of 88, on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on August 5th, 1931 in Laurel County, Kentucky to the late James "Jimmy" Grimes and Molly (Buckles) Grimes. He was united in marriage to Ella Lee Proffitt on September 29th, 1951. They raised one son, Harold Grimes Jr. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is remembered as a family man who enjoyed farming, trading mules, and sharing his passions with friends and family. Harold is survived by his son Harold Jr. (m. Andrea Grimes)of London, Kentucky and was the eldest sibling out of nine children, survived by brothers: Claude (m. Maudetta Grimes) of Deer-field Beach, Florida, Russell Grimes, Bobby (m. Mary), Ralph (m. Sally), and Roger Grimes all of London, Kentucky. His sisters; Imogene (m. Gene Tyree) of London, Kentucky; Ada Tyree of Greenfield, Indiana; and Wanda Proffitt of Zionsville, Indiana. He is also survived by those that loving called him "Paw". His grandchildren, Bridget (m. Chris Irvine), Rebecca Fields, Matthew (m. Laura Grimes), and great grandchildren, Brittani (m. Cody Meier); Collin Irvine; Taryn, Toby, and Tyra Fields; Lucas and Landon Grimes. Funeral services for Harold Grimes Sr. will be conducted Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 2:00 PM in London Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Terrell Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Swiss Colony Cemetery with DAV Chapter 158 Keavy in charge of military honor. The family of Harold Grimes Sr. will receive friends at London Funeral Home Chapel from 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 until the time of service. Serving a pallbearers are: Collin Irvine, Toby Fields, Cody Meier, Robbie Grimes, Jamie Grimes and Keith Grimes. Honorary pallbearers are: Danny Tyree, Denver Grimes, Scott Tyree, Carson Grimes, Darrell Grimes, Mike Proffitt, Shawn Proffitt, Willard Tyree, and Roger Grimes, Jr. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 66, 300 DAV Lane, London, Kentucky, 40741.
